On April 8th, the International Institute of Economics and Linguistics (IIEL) of Irkutsk State University held its annual Interuniversity Olympiad of Russian as a Foreign Language. The Olympiad of Russian as a Foreign Language is held in Irkutsk only at ISU IIEL and unites foreign students from all universities of the city.

The Russian language has united many countries and many people. It is gratifying to see that today our university, our Interuniversity Olympiad of Russian as a Foreign Language, has become a place where students from different universities, nationalities and specializations are united.

Among the participants were students of preparatory faculties and departments, undergraduate and graduate students from Cameroon, China, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Guinea-Bissau, Honduras, Lebanon, Mali, Mongolia, Nigeria, North Korea, Senegal, South Korea, Togo, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Yemen, studying at universities in Irkutsk – ISU, INRTU (Irkutsk National Research Technical University), IrSTU (Irkutsk State Transport University), ISMU (Irkutsk State Medical University), BSU (Baikal State University).

The Olympiad of Russian as a Foreign Language included four levels: A1 (elementary level), A2 (basic level), B1 (I certification level), and B2 (II certification level).

According to the results of the jury’s work, the winners are:

Elementary Level (A1):

II place – Chwe Chun Myung, IrSTU

III place – Zhu Siqi, ISU IIEL

Basic Level (A2):

I place – Batbaatar Sarangerel, IrSTU, and Zorigtsaikhan Anuujin, IrSTU

II place – Lyu Wanting, ISU Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication (IPFLMC)

III place – Qu Ruoying, ISU IPFLMC, and Xie Yulong, IIEL ISU

I Certification Level (B1):

I place – Jiang Ruibin, BSU, and Yan Jinghan, INRTU

II place – Shen Xiangyang, BSU

III place – Yang Jia, BSU

II Certification Level (B2):

I place – Liu Keke, ISU IPFLMC

II place – Liangliang, BSU

The Olympiad of Russian as a Foreign Language provides an opportunity for foreign students to express themselves, to show their knowledge in the field of the Russian language and culture. In addition, it is also a motivation for foreign students to study Russian.
